Here is the latest release of an 11Point7 College Baseball Bracketology Field of 64 Projection. As we enter Conference Tournament weekend, check out where postseason hopeful teams sit with one week to go. This is a projection, not our opinions. We are trying to predict what the NCAA Baseball Selection Committee will do on Labor Day Monday.

College Baseball Bracketology Field of 64 Projection Before Conference Tournament Weekend

NATIONAL TOP 8 SEEDS

1) Texas

2) Arkansas

3) Vanderbilt

4) Georgia

5) North Carolina

6) Auburn

7) LSU

8) Oregon

Texas was an easy decision to be No. 1 overall. The Longhorns won 22 games and the regular season championship in the best conference in college baseball.

In our field of 16 hosts Arkansas has the third best winning percentage vs Quad 1 opponents. Vanderbilt tallied 19 SEC wins without playing Missouri or South Carolina.

Georgia currently sits No. 1 in the RPI rankings. North Carolina is tied for the most combined Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins (23) in our field of 16 hosts.

Auburn has a better RPI (No. 2) and swept LSU (RPI No. 8) this season. For us that gave Butch Thompson’s squad the nod over Jay Johnson’s.

Oregon grabbed the last National seed. The Ducks have a Top 10 non-con strength of schedule, are 12-1 against the Top 2 quadrants, are the 1-seed in the Big Ten Tournament, and own a 4-game sweep over Oregon State.

REMAINING 8 REGIONAL HOSTS

9) Oregon State

10) Coastal Carolina

11) Florida State

12) Clemson

13) UCLA

14) Georgia Tech

15) Florida

16) Alabama

Oregon State is 28-10-1 away from Corvallis this season, the best away/neutral record in the country. Coastal Carolina has a Sun Belt title and Top 15 non-con strength of schedule with a 14-10 record vs Quadrants 1 & 2.

Florida State fell to RPI No. 14 but we think the Seminoles will be slotted higher than RPI has them. Clemson is tied for the most combined Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins (23) in our field of 16 hosts.

UCLA earned a Co-Champs label in the Big Ten with a 22 win season and 15-8 record in Quads 1 and 2. Georgia Tech won the outright ACC title with 19 league wins, 12 Q1 wins, and a Top 20 RPI.

Florida has an AD on the selection committee and has won six SEC series in a row with the No. 13 RPI. Alabama has the 9th ranked RPI and 16 SEC wins, and 14 Q1 dubs.

REGIONAL HOST BUBBLE

  • Southern Miss has a Top 20 non-con strength of schedule, 12-7 against Quads 1&2, 15-7 on the road.
  • Ole Miss has the most Quadrant 1 wins in the country (16) but are 18th in RPI.
  • Tennessee has equal or more SEC wins plus series wins over Florida and Alabama. BUT the Volunteers have a non-con strength of schedule outside of the Top 200 and are 1-6 in their last 7 SEC series.
  • TCU has a Top SOS and non-con SOS plus 19 Quad 1&2 wins but are 3rd in the Big 12 and lack top tier series wins.

AT-LARGE BID BUBBLE LAST FOUR IN

  • USC
  • Troy
  • Kentucky
  • Xavier

USC and Troy are currently in the field but can’t afford a brutal conference tournament loss or any bid stealers. Kentucky (13 SEC wins) needs at least one win in Hoover to feel comfortable. As of now the Wildcats may not have enough quality wins and are 191st in non-con strength of schedule.

Xavier scheduled extremely well but didn’t win enough of those games. We give the Musketeers a 15% chance of making the Big Dance as an at-large and highly recommend them to win the Big East Conference Tournament.

AT-LARGE BID BUBBLE FIRST FOUR OUT

  • Notre Dame
  • UTRGV
  • Cal Poly
  • Southeastern Louisiana

We didn’t have the balls to put Southeastern LA. into the field but their athletic director is the chairman of the selection committee, plus the Lions have a regular season title, and a series win over UTRGV. The Vaqueros were named Co-Champs of the Southland Conference and are 42nd in RPI with a 9-9 record vs Q1&2.

Notre Dame (14 ACC wins) needs to tally a couple of victories in the conference tournament to feel comfortable. Cal Poly sits 43rd in RPI but probably has to win the Big West Conference Tournament.

AT-LARGE BID BUBBLE FIRST FOUR OUT

  • Texas A&M
  • Western Kentucky
  • Virginia Tech
  • Indiana

Texas A&M has series wins at Arkansas, vs LSU, and at Tennessee. However they only have 11 SEC wins (3 vs South Carolina) and were swept at home by historically bad Missouri. Virginia Tech (12 wins) needs to make a run in the ACC Tournament.

Western Kentucky looks to be this year’s College of Charleston. A 40+ win mid-major team that has a putrid non-conference strength of schedule (285th). Indiana has 16 Big Ten wins, a RPI of 63, and an athletic director on the selection committee.
